The Blue Ridge Ramblers are a small group of experienced motorcycle riders who are setting out on an epic adventure in 2025.
We'll be riding across the U.S. touching on all 48 contiguous states in 10 days.
Three veteran riders - Greg "Chrome" Williams, Matt "Superfly" Williams, and Wayne "Razz" Rasmussen will depart northeast Georgia on June 28th, headed first to Maine and then across the U.S. They'll finish their trip on (or before!) July 7th in the Florida panhandle.
You might be asking yourself "Why in the world would anyone do that???" and it's a valid question. The answer is "because we want to do something large to highlight the large needs that are still unmet after the floods in western NC".
Hurricane Helene hit on September 27th, 2024. Although much has been accomplished in rebuilding, there is still much to do.
Many of our beloved Blue Ridge Mountain neighbors are still in distress and in need of supplies, rebuilding, and hope.
We're riding to raise awareness of the real need that is still out there, and we're riding to raise money to help offset some of the tremendous costs associated with rebuilding these once-thriving communities.
100% of the money we collect will go straight to "Wine to Water", an internationally acclaimed charity based in Boone NC.
All donations are 100% tax-deductible. In addition to raising money for the charity in order to ride, each rider will pay his own expenses. All donation links on this website go to WTW‘s secure servers.
On September 27, category 4 Hurricane Helene swept through Western North Carolina, leaving destruction in its wake. Over a thousand bridges and rivers were destroyed, homes flooded or were swept away, and the full impact in the region is still unknown.
As a Boone, NC based organization, Wine to Water jumped into action, working with their community to see how they could help. Working with neighbors with the same idea, within 72 hours "WTW" teams in Boone and Asheville had water, emergency supplies, and hundreds of volunteers to lend a hand.
WTW has been working tirelessly to help thousands of people get water, hygiene and baby items, hot meals, generators, and other essential supplies. Their incredible crews went by raft and ATVs to reach remote, hard-hit areas while volunteers in Asheville filled 5 gallon containers with water by the tanker load in public housing and urban neighborhoods for weeks on end. Wine To Water worked with the River Keepers to assist in vital shoreline cleanup and got busy removing debris from local homes. As Western North Carolina continues to recover and rebuild, Wine To Water will continue to show up helping their neighbors impacted by Helene to get back on their feet.
Wine To Water is currently providing:
* Tiny homes to displaced families
* Well-water testing and contamination mitigation
* Mud & Debris cleanup in homes and rivers
* Clean water to those in need
Please make a tax-deductible donation in honor of the Blue Ridge Ramblers 48-state campaign.
All riders pay their own expenses.

Greg has been riding on minibikes, dirt bikes, street bikes, sport tourers and cruisers for a long time... over 55 years. He holds 5 Iron Butt Association (tm) certificates for long-distance motorcycle riding.
22 years ago he and his wife Alice helped found another charity motorcycle event that went on to raise (and distribute!) over $1,000,000.
Alice and Greg stepped away from that charity after many years, but found they missed the satisfaction of helping those in need by leaning into their network to help pool money for a greater good. When Helene hit, they went to work raising money through a series of musical performances. This is the next step in that journey of helping people in western NC who are still struggling all these months later.
Greg will be blogging the adventure as time allows, and donors will receive a link where they can follow the trio in real time via GPS.
His bike for the trip is a 2011 Harley Road Glide CVO, and yes... he'll be wearing a helmet. (photo credit Matt Williams)

Matt 'Superfly' Williams started riding dirtbikes from around 8 years old starting out on a Honda 50.
Since then he joined his father, Greg, on the back seat across all 48 contiguous states (in separate trips across the years) and is listed as one of the younger 'riders' on the Iron Butt association site while being support and passenger for Greg's first Iron Butt ride.
During that attempt, Matt assisted Greg's consciousness by falling asleep, often bashing the edge of his helmet visor into Greg's back and threatening to fall off to the point where he got bungee'd to the back seat.
Since then Matt has continued riding, off and on, adding around 60k miles on two wheels and pursued other endurance feats including the slowest 50k possible without hitting the cut-off time.
Being able to combine a family passion with endurance and a good cause seems like a great way to spend 10-ish days, though at 36 the miles will likely wear a bit more than by being a napping passenger over 20 years ago.
Thankfully he'll have two older gentlemen to show him how to be gritty.
After 43 years of teaching at Blair Academy in Blairstown, NJ, Wayne retired in 2020. During his career, he served as a chemistry teacher, a math teacher, an assistant football coach (15 years), an assistant housemaster and housemaster (9 years), and technical director for the Blair Academy players (28 years).
In his early 30’s, he worked with a local general contractor and learned carpentry. In retirement, he still works mostly full-time with a small carpentry crew on various projects, and volunteers at Tuscarora Conference Center to assist their maintenance squad.
His interests include golf, vintage cars, and motorcycles (of course). He's a member of the Mount Bethel Church in Mount Bethel, PA.
This is one of the potential routes we'll take. We'll update once a final decision is made on starting and ending points. This route was ridden by Greg Rice. You can read more about his rides here: https://www.gregrice.com/rides/gregrice-48-State-Ride.html
The 2nd day of a long ride is always the toughest. The adrenaline of the 1st day has given way to sore muscles and a realization that you could be home that night if you just turned back. This is a just-released video about that 2nd day of a long ride.
More importantly, it's about pushing on, not giving up... like the resilient mountain people after Helene.
Hope you like it!
